The inspiration for this blog developed over time as I've realized that many of my friends, colleagues, and associates have encountered professional situations that they just didn't know how to handle. Most of them are women. I've caught myself saying "no one taught me how to deal with this!" too many times not to share and discuss what I've done right, wrong, and learned along the way.
I've also seen that too much of the news coverage is negative when it comes to women at work. I wanted to share the positive aspects of being a working woman!
With my background in political communications and crisis management I've seen that there's a lot of talk about workplace issues, but there are very few resources for practical application in the workplace.
Livlyhood is a community for professional women, a forum and resource to discuss what I’ve learned, what I’ve yet to learn, and how we can learn from each other.

I'm just your typical politically-obsessed, public relations focused millennial woman trying to make a difference, while also staying true to myself. Currently, I'm a Vice President at a political marketing and communications firm in Salt Lake City, Utah. In my spare time I enjoy traveling with my husband, being in the outdoors and randomly breaking into song. My faith in Jesus Christ is also a huge part of my life.
Early in my career, I became the Director of Communications for a prominent Congressman in Washington, DC. During the 2012 presidential election, I managed the communications efforts during the Iowa Caucus and led the communications strategy for my boss as he moderated CNN's South Carolina Presidential Candidate Debate. On a daily basis, I interacted with members of the press and wrote all speeches, press releases and official statements from our office. I was also chosen to lead the Heritage Foundation's weekly Communications Director briefing to educate other Capitol Hill staffers about best practices.
From DC, I was recruited to be the Director of Communications under the Governor of Florida. I served as the Department of State Public Information Officer, on-camera official spokeswoman and speechwriter for the Secretary of State and agency of over 600 employees. I led efforts in advertising, public affairs, marketing, and social media while leading the marketing and communications team of thirty professionals, directing strategy for campaigns in tourism, voting, and education. I then moved into the private sector and have since worked with startups and established enterprise companies to guide and direct communications and marketing strategy. My clients have included Microsoft, Pfizer, Children's Miracle Network Hospital, Subway, and Extra Space Storage.
I interned at NBC News in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Brigham Young University in Communications and Political Science.
